Roar!

Photobucket

I am a LION!
Hear me roar!
mew

Norman was helping me today. I needed to take a photo, and of course it needed to be of him. Or so he said. Who can deny such a handsome face?

Today I learned of a sad case of neglect a couple counties south of me. A well known breeder of reining horses in the northwest was discovered with roughly 50 extremely well bred horses...starving. Why? I do not know. What I do know is that the reining horse association is acting fast and trying to get the horses into homes, many free of charge, before they go another day without food. Breeding such as Topsail Whiz, Doc Tom Tucker, and even a Hollywood Dun It daughter, broodmares were there just a couple years ago. Mares, stallions and foals are needing new homes. If you've got room for an extra mouth, or if you'd like to contribute to feeding these hungry critters, let me know.

It sends me reeling to think what we humans are capable of doing to those who trust us. Makes you want to roar...maybe a little louder than Norman.

If there were anyone bringing some over this way, I could take in a youngster as long as there's nothing I have to sign saying I'd keep it forever. I could feed it up and find it a home when the market is better. Let me know if I can help. But I know it's a long shot since I can't drive over there to pick it up.

Is there a link to info on this? There's a reining trainer locally who might be interested if I can send her some info.

Andrea, I'll see what I can do to get you in touch with the right people. It came across my email from a friend in the reining assoc.

where are they located? I live in Canby Oregon outside of Portland. We might be interested, but like the previous person would probably get it healthy, and trained and sell it later.

I know someone who might be able to help out but I need to send her some info. Is there a link to the reining association who is dealing with this? Who could she contact?

Great photo of Norman...he's quite photogenic...handsome dude!

What a shame for all those horses. It sounds like there are some takers out there...the blood lines are very tempting...so hopefully the situation can be resolved quickly.

Keep us posted.

He SO looks like a lion!
Oh dear, so sad about the reining horses! That is insane. Was it just tough times/economy? I wish I had room for another mouth...as you know, there is little room at the Painted Creek these days. My sis sure is enjoying her baby though!

Sometimes I think these things have to be dementia kicking in - why would someone starve high dollar horses? The market is bad, but not impossible...

We're too far, but I have a few friends in South Texas that might be interested...

An update on the horses; several have been picked up by training farms in the area. I contacted one of those farms who said that those they ended up with (9) weren't that bad, but there were others which were quite thin. Hay had been left for the remaining horses and the owner given some time to consider parting with more (and with any luck, all, but that's doubtful.) I'll know more come the first of the week.
