Blue Moon

Photobucket

Ever wonder where the "Once in a Blue Moon" phrase comes from? Apparently it's when there are two full moons in one month. A blue moon doesn't happen very often, but we're about to experience one on New Year's Eve.

I don't know about you, but I just love photos taken in the moonlight. Big, full moons reflecting off the snow, illuminating the surroundings in an eerie glow, shadows cast about by old barns or livestock standing out beneath the stars. Pretty, pretty stuff.

Of course...clouds are rolling in here, so my plans of Blue Moon photography have been dashed. Still, moon or not, I think it'd be fun to see what the New Year looks like as it enters our lives. So I decided to host a Blue Moon Party Night for everyone to participate in. I went in search of that Linky dude so that y'all could sign up and let us know that you'd like to participate. I registered at Mr. Linky's website, got the code, pasted it here, and...it didn't show up. At least not at my end. Does it show up at your end?

Well, Mr. Linky or not, if you'd like to capture what the Blue Moon or New Year looks like at the stroke of midnight in your part of the world, leave a comment and we'll get it figured out.

That is a cool pic...love it...just abstract enough to make you study it. Nice!

Very cool moonlight pic, took me a moment of studying it to figure out what it was of! Nice work!

Shirley, don't tell me you're as old as I am, lol! I can barely keep my eyes open, either, but figured maybe a nap would help?

I have a confession...that photo was taken in the middle of the day! Gotta love photoshop... But no cheating for the Blue Moon!

Hmmm... I'll see if I can. I'm at work so it may not be the most interesting shot! lol
LOVE that pic at the bottom of the post!

Well, if you have clouds, I probably will too, but I'll give it a try.

As for the S word you mentioned for moonlight pics, if by some strange quirk of fate we end up with that stuff, it's all your fault!!!

Tracey, I signed up and will be up until after midnight! We never go out, just stay home and watch the ball drop at midnight so I will get my camera set on tripod ready for the moon! hope it won't be cloudy here but will shot something anyway! Wonder if I can get Gil and Poke to be around somewhere and try to get a shot of them. Will have cookies handy; all I have to do is say "cookie" to Gil and he knows what that means! LOL
Great idea, should be fun!!!
Happy New Year!!!

Looks like we're going to have clouds, and I'm a stinky photographer, but it sounds fun anyhoo.
