Here she is, all 14 hands (maybe) of mustang dynamo! This little mare is the nicest mover. She's 5 years old and really seems to want to please. She struggles a bit to the left but in the round pen with the rail to support her did much better than when we were out in the arena. You can see a little of her snarky mare-itude when I ask her to do what she doesn't want. Just a bit of left over fear, though, and I'm confident we can work that out of her in the next few weeks.
Flicka is available for adoption; her fee has been paid but her adopter will need to meet BLM requirements and fill out the paperwork. If you know anyone looking for a sport pony project, this is the girl!

It was a very compassionate thing for you to do...bringing Flicka home to put some more training on her. I hope you are able to find her a good home.
She does move nice...small is a good size for reiners & cutters...is she gonna get some experience w/ the hydra bull??? Would that help her get adopted?
We used to have a horse that would VOICE her displeasure when we lunging her. She HATED lunging. When we would ask her to transition she would squeal and toss her head & sometimes throw in a buck, we thought it was comical. She even got the attention of many barn-goers with her displays. She had to lunge anyway. But that was the best horse even in spite of her outspoken nature. After this mare, I look at "snarky" as not such a bad thing, at least she's not boring or dumb.
I didn't see the snarkiness in that clip--I guess my mare has desensitized me. She looked great. I like the way she yielded so easily in front--which is what we're working on right now. Nice.
I edited most of the snarkies out, lol! But it's there, trust me. I agree with you, Jeanette...I'll take snarky intelligence over dumb! Not sure if I'll get her far enough along to do the bull; she's a tough ride from what I understand. She's quick and darts out fast, then slams to a stop which is her rider's exit...right over the head. I'm going to see if I can get Jay to hang onto her in the round pen until she gets over that. Not sure how willing either he or Curt will be, lol!!!
Thank you for your comment! I have been following your progress with Steve Holt! and Flicka and thought you did awesome! About the mares and foals, I cant imagine how with so many mares with foals the competition will be fair and with Flicka as an example is there a market for them at the adoption? It's a really unfortunate thing for our competition and the competitors with the pregnant mares. So far 6 have foaled and they have requested Preg Checks for everyone else because there are more! We will see what happens I guess!
Sounds like Flicka's skills will be really enhanced by your style of training. With her being that quick on her feet reining or cutting would not be such a far stretch. Your detailed foundation will be perfect for her!
(just remember your velcro britches...lol)
You will do great with her Tracey - have great confidence in you. she is a cute little horse.
She is a cute little thing...what a great project horse...so glad she is not back in the corrals. Thanks City Boy!
She is a cute thing and a really nice mover. I'm so glad that you are giving her a chance and good luck!
Bless CityBoys soft heart! That's a lovely little mare and she is so fortunate that she ended up with you! Hope you chronicle her training on this blog!
That little girl deserves a wonderful home. Flicka looks like she wants to please, just needs a little more time to trust.
How wonderful that you took her and are so patiently working with her, and what great progress. To think that was her first time in the arena! Congrats to you both!
That video was my "feel good" for today. Thanks!
Ohhh now she's a nice looking mare! Nice movement and very pretty, I don't doubt Flicka will go far!!! =)
You have no idea how much reading your blog makes me crave for a new horse to get to know...*slap* NO! Down Gecko!!!!
