Blogger's Wild Road Trip, Anyone?

The old dun featured on my blog header and background had quite the injury.

You know, of course, it doesn't take much to convince me. A comment left over at Pony Girl's blog got me to thinking...maybe we need to make a road trip! To Oregon, of course, for a wild horse photography vacation.

Yes? You agree?

I'm certain Darling wouldn't mind an opportunity to visit with Dibs again.

Perhaps we'll spot his big brother again, too!

The ever elusive, on guard Sox paced the top of the ridge in December when he spotted us.

And Honor...such a strikingly handsome boy.

My friend Lea emailed me tonight, upset over an article she'd read in Western Horseman. Seems someone said that mustangs are feral scrubs that no one wants, and that there is no such thing as the American Mustang. Guess I'm proud to be a no one! I'll be heading out to pick up a copy and certainly be writing a letter to the editor. If you're proud to be a no one as well, why not write as well!

I love the idea of a bloggers wild road trip! Wasn't it my sister that mentioned it? Leave it to Pony Girl to plan something like that! :)
I suscribe to Western Horseman, but I am so behind reading them, I have not seen that comment yet. I don't get why people have to be so nasty!

It was all Tracey's idea!! ;)
I just read an article last night that called Mustangs "mutts" and not really wild, but feral horses mixed from purebreds that were released by ranchers (although it did say this was years and years ago......)
Anyway, what dates were you thinking....maybe we should start some emails of interested parties and see what we can come up with? I'll browse your site for an email, otherwise, email me at: ponygirlridesagain@gmail.com, I've been wanting to ask you something anyway!! :)

A blogger's road trip would be great! What about that trail ride in August? Is it still happening?

Trail ride in August, at least in my mind, is still on. I may need to get a summer job to pay for it, though, lol! But yup, I'm still planning on it.

I also emailed Pony Girl with the possibility of October when it's a bit cooler. I started thinking last night that on horseback we may not find the South Steens herd unless we pack tents along with us.

Andi had talked about using the campground and riding out from there, but I think we may need a spotter driving through ahead of time so we know in which general direction to go. If not, we could be out there each day and never find them before needing to head back.

Hah, they have no idea who they are messing with!

Sure wish I was closer...I would love that kind of road trip.

August. When in August? I had figured it wouldn't work since I originally thought I'd have to wait to get Cody started under saddle. But he should have a couple months under saddle by then....but it depends on when in August as I will be out of town the 20-23. *starts pondering if she could make it all work*

Love those photos!

There is a wonderful book called "Nobody's Horses" about wild horses. Perhaps Western Horseman is confusing them with Mustangs.

Here is a link: http://simplymarvelous.wordpress.com/2009/04/26/horse-books-to-read-nobodys-horses/

The editor should do some research before printing articles like that. In addition, I think most people take offense at calling any horse a "mutt".

Have a great time on your bloggers trail ride. Post photos!

Well, I see the link didn't work, so am posting from Simply Marvelous. Scan down, you will find the book posted there.

Thanks Tracey -- either way, I'd love to come. Maybe to both? Bloggers and trail riders... but please keep me updated.

This is the exact trip I am hoping to take in the not too distant future, with a nice new camera of course.
Ignore the hateful comments made by the elitist snobs and jerks who have no clue to the value of mustangs, their heart and spirit. Those people make me tired.

You should check out my wild road trip! I drove from New Mexico to Nebraska for a trail ride just a couple of weeks ago with my daughter and my mom.
There are a total of 4 posts about it called Stateside at http://fantastykvoyage.blogspot.com/2009/05/stateside.html
