Numbers hang off the necks of those left behind.
They're spray painted on those found starving at the 3-Strikes Ranch, aka Mustang Outpost. (Thankfully, Jason Meduna, the man who starved so many mustangs to death, was convicted of animal cruelty. Too bad his sentence didn't reflect the suffering he inflicted.)
Numbers are freezebranded onto hips of those deemed 'too old' to adopt.
Even the wee ones are numbered and tagged.

Great numbers, and I hope the number of the adopted ones keeps going up.
We're thinkin' alike today Tracey. Too many of those numbers left behind...
Great shots. My heart breaks for them all.
Wonderful pictures, especially of that cute little stinker at the end!! Actually she's not a stinker, she is awesome!
Wish they all could be adopted. Thanks for the reminder of the beauty of the mustangs, and the hope for their survival.
this is so sad :(
Very clever. The horses' plight makes me sad, though.

Sad to see them..especially the starving and not to be adopted ones..and that little one is a real survivor..hopefully he or she finds a new home with gentle caring people. Sad numbers:(
That little one was adopted last year by Paint Girl...it's our own little Chance when I first spotted her at the corrals last spring!
Great numbers! I hope the ones that are hip tagged are able to find new homes at some point.
